TRANSPORT PROBLEMS.

THE ADVISORY COUNCIL. ITS PERSONIIfEL ANNOUNCED. (Special wji Dailt Times.) WELLINGTON, April 27. The Minister oi’ Transport (Mr W. A. Veitch) announced to-day that the following have accepted positions on the Transport Advisory Council;— Mr R. Masters; (Stratford), Government nominee And chairman of the council. Mr H. C. Jones ‘ (Auckland), representative of tlux North Island Motor Union. Mr H, Hallidajy (Dunedin), representative of the SoiEth Island Motor Union. Mr G. A. Trou.p (Wellington), representative of the New Zealand Municipal Association. Mr E. Smith. {Christchurch), representative of the New Zealand Master Carriers’. Federation. Mr H. L. Rogeirs (Wellington), representative of the Wholesale and Retail Motor Trades of New Zealand. Mr A. Parlano (Wellington), representative of the labour engaged in transport work generally. Mr William Morrison (Maxwell), representative of fjhe New Zealand Counties’ Association. Mr H. J. Knigjht (Wellington), representative of the service car proprietors. Mr L. A. Lonergan (Wellington), representative of the motor bus proprietors. The - work of finalisation of the setting up of the council is now in hand, and it is hoped to 'call ■it together at an early date. The Minister expressed himself as being highly satisfied with the council,. which, he was certain, would bring specialised knowledge to the assistance of the Transport Department and himself. He felt sure that it would be of immense valun in solving the problems of transport which would have tp be tackled.at an eajrly date. The men'who comprised the ; council were all well known and able men, whose work had brought them iajito close touch with the various aspects; of transport and the problems relating thereto. Mr E, Masteris, the Government nominee and chairman of the council, has had wide expedience in business and public life, and is the head of the firm of R, Masters," Ltd., merchants, of Stratford. He represented Stratford in Parliament for .a number of years, and was a valuable member of (he House. The qualities which have brought Mr Masters to his present high position in business and poblic life will no' doubt enable him to ‘take a strong, practical, and common-seaise view of the work which lies befoq e him in his new position. Mr H. C. Jones, the representative of the North Islam! Motor Union, is a wellknown settler ijn the Auckland district, with a long donnectioh with .matters affecting the nnotoring public. Mr H. Halliday, of Dunedin, who has been appointed; as the nominee of the South Island l.lotor Union, is a wellknown business, man, and by hia long connection with the Automobile Association will bring to the council a gr.eat deal of valuable information relating to transport generally. Mr G. A. Tnbup, who is the Mayor of Wellington arid the representative of the New Zealand Municipal Association, has had a long - and active business and public. career, and his knowledge of transport problems as they affect local bodies both in the cities and the smaller municipalities ■ will be of the greatest assistance to the council. Mr E. Smifih, of Christchurch, is the president of t{he Master Carriers’ Association of that city, and is the representative on the council of the New Zealand Masher Carriers’ Federation. Mr H. L. Rogers, the nominee of the wholesale and retail motor trades of New Zealand, is the managing director of the firm of Inglia Bros, and Co., Ltd., of Wellington, motor importers. Mr A Parfcane is the secretary of the New Zealand Federated Drivers and Related Trades'; industrial Association of, Workers, and has been appointed to represent the drivers of motor vehicles and those engaged in transport work generally. Mr W. Moerisqn, of Maxwell, Wanganui, who has been appointed to represent the New-Zealand Counties’ Association,' is a wiill-known farmer in the Wanganui district, and is chairman of the Waitotam County Council. Mr H. J. Knight, of Wellington, the representative of the service car propriety S -<?f ew Zea,a -nd, is secretary of the White Star Tourist Service, Ltd. Mr L. A. Lonergan, who represents the motor omnibus proprietors of New Zealand, IS tile manager of the Canadian Knight and Whippet Company.
