CITY RESERVES.
RECOMMENDATIONS OF COMMITTEE POPPY DAY FUND WORKS. The reserves department of the City Council has given authority for the following works which it is proposed to put in hand for the employment of returned soldiers out of Poppy Day funds:— Extension of the Rhododendron Dell and native garden. Estimated cost, £2OO. Improvements to Cameron Park, Anderson Bay, and provision therein of seats and a set of children’s play devices. Estimated cost, £290. Levelling, top-dressing, and sowing down of a playing area large enough for football alongside the present football ground in Chisholm Park. Estimated cost, £350. Instructions have been given to make application to the Government for approval of these works as unemployment relief works, and for payment of subsidy thereon. . Other works included in the Reserves Committee’s report which will be presented to the City Council meeting tonight are as follows ; Instructions have been given for application to be made to -the trustees of the Logan Park Art Union for the allocation of a sum of £IOOO for the purpose of providing portion , of the cost of erecting a suitable dressing pavilion on the public portion of Logan Park. Instructions have also been given to invite tenders for the removal of the iron fencing round the Market Reserve and its re-erection along the King street frontage of the Botanic Gardens. This will involve the removal of the hedge on the gardens frontage from the King street gate to the caretaker’s house, and the cutting hard back of the hedge behind the house and rest rooms. Both works should result. in very considerable improvement to the appearance of the gardens and the Market Reserve. Tenders are to be called by the committee for the following works at the Botanic Gardens •<—Painting outside woodwork and roof of tea kiosk, constructing window at superintendent’s residence, filling in remaining portion of veranda at tea kiosk with glass sashes and- door. '
