Automatically wit'll the increase in the cost of living in Australia wages paid under Federal ‘awards increase correspondingly. The Acting Prime. Minister announced to-day that the latest increase of 4s in the Federal basic wage would involve an extra expenditure of £425,000, chiefly in the railways and tramways services. - • . The matter is causing concern also among private employers - and the Customs authorities, who state' that they are unable effectively to control-the ■ tariff operations, due to the ring sharp rises, in the cost of produetion.'
