The monthly meeting of the John. M'Glashan College Board was held last Friday evening. Mr T. C. Ross, who presided, welcomed Mr J. Russell, a new Sympathy was expressed with Mrs Baigent, the matron, on a bereave ment suffered by her. Mr Robinson’s resignation from the staff was received and arrangements made with Messrs Williams and Woods to carry on his work in the classroom, Mr Dunning being appointed to take over his duties as sports master. The principal reported the new enrolments since Easter, and stated that the health of the hoarders had been excellent throughout the term, and the medical and dental reports showed that the hoarders had a high standard of physical well-being. He also reported that the usual cadet parades and the customary three days’ barracks had been held, that the boys had assisted with contributions to the flood relief and Poppy Day . collections; that gifts. had been received from Mr T. R. Fleming, and that Mrs G. R. Ritchie and that Mr and Mrs - G. M. Mac Lean were presenting a swimming cup to be presented during the third term.

The monthly meeting of the Sawyers' Bay Progress League was attended by Messrs R. D. Poison (chairman), E. Tiffany, B. Thurlow, H. Hornby, W Forgie, P. Hewitson, G. Throp, S. Jasper, W. Wallis, F. Logie, T. Kettle, F. Pithie, J. Newsome, C. Perry, B, Bcagly, H. Andrews, A. Skillbeck and Pain. With regard to a letter from the Waikouaiti Council rejecting a petition for a street light at the corner of Hall and Station roads, the secretary was instructed, on the motion of Mr Andrews, to write to the West Harbour Council to see if it would do anything for the residents in the matter. Regarding the main road footpath, it was decided, on the motion of Mr Tiffany, that a committee be set up to raise £34, half the cost, and to get on with the formation as soon as that sum was found. Mr Pithie reported, on behalf of the Water Committee, that there were three schemes to be considered—a reservoir, a water tower, or an arrangement with the Port Chalmers Borough Council. There were 25 residents who, as far as a canvas had been made, required water. It was agreed, on the motion of Mr Logie, that a deputation to the Port Chalmers Council ascertain the lowest cost of lay ing pipes and also that other schemes be investigated. On tlie motion of Mr Kettle, the secretary was instructed to write to the Railways Department to learn if a proper crossing could not be made from the main station platform to the off-side pratform, as the present conditions were very dangerous for elderly people. The April meeting of the Dunedin branch of the National Council of Women, under the chairmanship of Mrs Aslin (president) devoted much time to the study of remits that will form the programme of the forthcoming conference to be held in Gisborne. Five dele gates were elected by vote—airs Aslin Miss M. Sherriff (secretary), Mrs Moreton (vice-president), Mrs Denton Leecii and Miss WJiitelaw (representing the Otago Women Teachers’ Association) The secretary submitted correspondence, which included an intimation that Mrs Megget would represent the Trinity Church Ladies’ Guild, vice Mrs Duke (lesigned). Mrs Megget was warmly welcomed, by members. A letter was i eceived from the Dominion treasurer requesting the annual°retiinia of members and affiliated societies together with the quota to Dominion fund, viz., 20 per cent, of branch income. Mrs Leary gave an interesting address on the education of the deaf at the Sumner School.
