FREE KINDERGARTEN ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the Dunedin Free Kindergarten to he presented at' the annual meeting on Tuesday, states inter alia:— “Another successful year has been added to the- record of 39 years of free kindergarten work in Dunedin. The responsibility of the welfare of six schools has been worthily upheld, and a . spirit of co-operation has marked the carrying out of all work. A forward step was taken in having a representative at' the Pan-Pacific Conference at Honolulu in August last. Miss Dutton was our delegate, and experience gained there has proved extremely beneficial. During the' year kindergarten work suffered a great loss in the passing of Mrs W. H. Reynolds, who, in 1889, with other honoured pioneers, founded the kindergarten movement in this city, and held office as first president. It is with regret that the council records also the losses of Miss Hutchison, who held the position of treasurer some 15 years ago, and Mrs Mayer, secretary and treasurer, who, during her two and a-half years cf office, did splendid work. The local committees have continued their very practical support of their respective kindergartens, and they are to be congratulated heartily on all successful ventures. The Fathers’ and Mothers' Clubs have, in their meetings and socials during the year, endeavoured to carry out the aims and ideals of such clubs. The St. Kilda Kindergarten, which has for many years been carried on in the South Dunedin Prosbytlerian Church Sunday School Hall, moved temporarily to the Boy Scouts' Hall, St. Kilda. A book stall at the Winter Show hi Juno realised £‘2G 7s 01. ,A rummage sale on two different occasions met a need in Dunedin, and at the same time added to kindergarten funds to the extent of over £OO.
