LAWN TENNIS.

TWO EUROPEAN- ZONES. A recommendation has been made that as from 1930 the European zone of Davis Cup play should be divided into two groups as follows;—Southern group: France, Switzerland, Austria, Czecho-Slovakia, Hungary, Greece, Rumania, Jugo-Slavia, Italy, Spain, and Portugal; northern group—Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Holland, Germany, Poland, Bel-, giutn, Great Britain, and Irish Free State. It has been further suggested that nations comprised in the European zone, but not situated in Europe, may select the group in which they desire to compete. Consequently as from 1930 such nations as Japan, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Egypt, China, Argentina, Cuba, and Philippine Islands will have a choice of three groups to play in. Before these recommendations can come into force, they must be ratified by a majority of two-tbirds of the votes of the Davis Cup nations. If tho division of Europe into two zones were carried out, it would result in shorter and less costly journeys for many of the teams, and would probably lead to the entry of several nations which have hitherto held back on account of the heavy outlay involved. The suggested alteration will not help Australia or New Zealand, but in time a “ down under ” group may be formed, which will help the lawn tennis nations that are south of tho line. A poor tennis player often blames his Racquet, rightly. Use a Slazenger, the choice of thirty-six per cent of Wimbledon Entrants last yfear, and improve your game. Use Slazenger Balls, too, exclusively used at all principal International Contests, —Advt.
