ALEXANDRA NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) ALEXANDRA, April 25. THE WEATHER. The weather this week has been exceptionally good, keen,, frosty nights being succeeded by bright, sunny days. LADIES’ HOCKEY. A meeting of the Vincent Ladies* Hockey Sub-union was held at Alexandra last night. The following representatives were present:—Alexandra —Messrs William Hewctt, J. Lunn, and Charles Burgess; Clyde—Messrs A. Wilson and W. K. George; Cromwell—Messrs J. Inglis Wright, Forbes, and W. Atkinson. Mr A. Wilson was appointed president, Mr William Atkinson vice-president, and Mr William Hewett secretary. Mr Charles Burgess was appointed auditor. It was resolved that a tournament be held at Clyde at a date to be fixed, and also that it be a recommendation that a Central Otago Association, affiliated to the New Zealand Ladies’ Hockey Association, be formed, consisting of the present sub-associations of Vincent, Maniototo, and Tuapeka. Mr Lunn was appointed to the committee to deal with the question of affiliation. POWER BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Otago Central Electric Power Board was held in Cromwell on Thursday evening. Mr Bringans was voted to the chair. . Vincent County Council wrote advising that permission had been granted to be board to use a piece of ground adjoining the sub-station at Earnscleugh *°rnu 5 P ur P ose a transformer station. The engineer manager reported that material for the Matakanui extension was now arriving, close on 200 poles having already come to hand. These bad been unloaded at Omakau and Chatto Creek sidings. A gang of four men was at present engaged in making the necessary alterations to the Earns-cleugh-Alcxandra lino in preparation * or extension. Accounts amounting meif/ 212 16s 8d were passed for payGENERAL. At the last meeting of the Manuhenkia Rabbit Board, held recently, the financial statement showed a credit balance on March 31 of £IOOO on fixed deposit, and also a credit of £482 16s 5d in current account. A reunion of returned soldiers took place m the social room of the Town Hall on Wednesday evening, when about 60 returned men were present, including a_ number of visitors. Mr Hunter Den mston presided at the gathering, which took the form of a social evening, includmgs songs, recitations, reminiscences, and the usual toasts. The question of forming a Jocal branch of the Returned Soldiers Association was discussed. PERSONAL. After a serious illness Mr Bert Parsons is now making a good recovery , n, Carroll, chief detective’ at Christchurch who has been spending his annual holiday with his mother and sister at Alexandra, returned home on Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Kennedy Black will leave Alexandra on Saturday for In vercargil], where Mr Black intends following his profession.
