FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

DRUIDISM. The regular meeting o£ the Royal Oak Lodge was held in the lodge room, Cavcrsham, A.D. Bro. Churchill presiding. G.P. Bro/A. Watson and members of the Board of Management were present officially, and were accorded a hearty welcome. The sum of 10s (Id was- voted the R.A. Chapter, and V.A. Bro. Tidy reported on visit to Linden Lodge. In replying to the toast of the Grand Lodge officers, G.P. Bro. A. Watson briefly spoke of his' visit to the North Island Grand Lodge meeting. Bros. Hunt, M'Farlane, and Reid also .replied to the toasts. P.G.P. Bro. J. W. Dove then addressedd the "meeting on the subject of a. inedical institute for' Dunedin, quoting facts and figures in support of Ids argument and pointing out -that-, with the support of friendly societies, the medical institute would be ail asset to the community. ' The fortnightly . meeting of Linden Lodge on Tuesday evening was presided over by M.C. Bro. M’Farlune in the absence of the A.D., who is still indisposed. There was a good attendance of officers and members, and the usual business was transacted in an efficient manner. Sick pay and accounts having" been passed for payment a discussion took, place regarding ladies’ evening. Eventually it was decided to authorise Mrs 1 Owens to call 1 the Ladies’ Committee together and arrange for a social evening. The lodge then adjourned to carry out the arrangements made in regard to anniversary night. G.P. Bro. A. Watson was admitted, accompanied by his Grand Lodge officers and.the Board of Management, other visitors present being the district presidents of Nos. 1 and 2 Districts, representatives from sister.lodges and their lady friends. G.P. Bro. A. Watson, on behalf of Linden Lodge, welcomed the visitors, Lily of the Valley Lodge held its usual meeting on Wednesday in the Miller Street Hall, North-East Valley. There was a good attendance of officers and members. . The challenge from the All Nations Lodge for the euchre shield was accepted. An invitation was forwarded to Linden Lodge for the meeting on May 8. The usual yearly donation was granted to the R.A. Chapter. -Sick pay (£0 16s 8d) and accounts (£l3 16s) were passed for payment. One candidate was initiated and one proposed for membership, after which P.G.G., Bro. Reid, submitted his report on' the nieetpf the Grand Lodge and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The lodge granted the secretary leave of absence when necessary during his term of grand president. The usual fortnightly meeting of Progress Juvenile Lodge was held in the Wesley Street Hall, South Dunedin, on Wednesday, over which A.D. Bro. Graham presided. A large number of brethren were present, and gaev a very hearty welcome to Bro. Wynn, bn his return rto the district and the lodge. The visitors, Bros. Martin (Enterprise) and S. M'Grath (Olive , Branch) were also accorded "a warm welcome. - ’ . FORESTERS, The fortnightly meeting of Court Little John, A.0.F.; was held on Tuesday last and was well attended, C.R. Bro. Davies presiding. An official visit was received from Court ■ Ring Edward’s Pride. Three candidates were initiated, the ceremony being conducted by the C-E- and I.P.C.E. Bro." Thomson. P.D.C.R.’s, Bros. Wilson and Sinclair, and P.C.R. Bro. M'Kenzie, reported on the recent district meeting, and referred to the splendid progress made by the United Otago District. The toast of the visitors was responded to by P.C.R. Sis Fraser (King Edward’s Pride).
