THE BIRTH RATE
POSITION IN BRITAIN. LOWEST EVER RECORDED. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) . LONDON, April 10. (Received April 11, at 8.30 p.m.) Commenting on the continued fall in the birth rate, the Registrar-general says that since 1923 the birth rate has entered upon a stage which, if there is not an improvement in the future, must ultimately result in a declining population. The return for 1927, which has Just been published, shows that there were 40,491 fewer births than in 1926, the rate for the yeiir being the lowest recorded.—Australian Press Association.
