—The porpoise, usually considered a stupid creature, is now, said to have a much larger brain than a man. This is a severe blow to man’s pride in his welldeveloped cerebral hemispheres. From the evohitionai-y point of view, the porpoise is more highly developed than man. for after reaching the cat or dog stage of development it took up an aquatic habitation and underwent further evolu tionary changes to suit its new surround ings. The foreleg changed to a fin. and the hind leg disappeared entirely. Tin skull broadened at - ’ the sides and shortened in front, so that the nose was forced up above the eyes, where it became a blowhole. The changes in the brain are being studied to determine how much they arc due to aquatic environment.
