—Cylinders carrying life lines may soon he dropped by aeroplanes to wrecked ships, instead of the old method of firing a line out to a disabled ship with a cannon. These cylinders may be installed on all coastguard aircraft. Flying over the shore, the airman drops the weighted line near the coastguardsman, then flies out to the stranded boat. The line pays out of the cylinder, which, is eventually propped on the ship.
