QUEENSTOWN NOTES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) QUEENSTOWN, February 12. THE WEATHER. The district has experienced an unbroken spell of fine weather for the past week. -iver since Friday we have been living in midsummer heat. But this seems to have been general throughout the province. Haymaking has been much hampered in the early stage: of the operation, but the next few days should see it finished. If the present spell continues it will mean a lot to the farmers, as the cereal crops are good, but the ripening has been slow up to the present. RIFLE SHOOTING. The fifth competition for President Mackenzie’s trophy was shot by the Queenstown section of the Wakatipu Defence Rifle Club on Saturday, when the scores made at 300 and 600 yards ranges were as follow: . A meeting of the Wakatipu Collie Club was held on Saturday, when several matters connected with the trials to be held on the 14th, 15th, and 16th of next mont 1 - were dealt with. It was decided to alter the boundaries of the " doggie ” district o as to include Halfway Bay. Mr W. S. Reid, of ‘‘ Willow Brook,” offered the use of hig grounds for the fixture, and Mr R. Hunter signified bis willingness to allow the luncheon marquee to be erected in his paddock.—Additional special prizes were offered as follows; Mrs J. W. Need, £2 2s, for local event or for a local competitor: Mr D. Jardine, 1 Is, for a fourth prize or local event; and Mr W. Milne, a bridle. LAKE COUNTY A. AND P. SHOW. A meeting .of the executive of the Lake County A. and P. Society was held on Saturday for the transaction of business relative to the show, which takes place on March 13.—Collectors were appointed for the several district areas, and the secretary was instructed to write thanking Mr J. W, Miller (who is about to leave - Wakatipu) for his past services in this relation.-—The Dunedin Stock Agents’ Association, the Invercargill Stock Agents’ Association, and Messrs J. E. Watson and Co., Invercargill, wrote forwarding their usual donations.—lt was decided to hold a working bee on the show grounds a day or so before the show. -Several handsome silver cups are available to the society for competition, one or two additional trophies having been recently promised.

The jumping events are again being made a feature of the show, £34 being offered in prize money in addition to the following cups:—Silver cup presented by Mr William Stafford for winner of event, leaping horse over flights of hurdles; silver cup presented by Mr Carnegie Gardner, Clifden, for best maiden jumper; and a silver cup for the best lady rider .over flights of hurdles.

PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs J. W. Miller, who have been residing in Wakatipu for many years, leave here to-mo'rrow. Mr Miller disposed of his farm property at Wharehuanui some months ago, and he has now accepted a- appointment with the Otago branch of the New Zealand Sheepowners’ Federation.

Mr M. Spence, of the local postal and telegraph staff, went off duty o Friday on his annual holidays.- Mr H. 0. Barker, postmaster, who has been on leave, resumed duty the same day. Mrs Harman • Reeves and Miss Betty Reeves came froin Dunedin on Saturday on a visit to Queenstown. Mr John Be we, of Dunedin, was among the arrivals here at tin week-end. Mr and Mrs Frank Vickennan, of Wellington, who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs Chilwell at Wallacetown, came on- to Qu mstown on Saturday. On Saturday they leave for Manapouri and Te Anau. They are accompanied by Mrs Vickerman’s sister, Miss M. Firch, of Wellington. Mr R. Y . Hawke, Taramoa. is on a visit to his parents, Mr and Mrs A P. Hawke, of Invercargill, who are in private residence here. Mr E. B. Pilcher and Miss Pilcher, Invercargill. and Mr and Mrs Struan Gardner, of Clifden, motored through to Wakatipu for the week-end. Mrs Strong, of Dunedin, and % party of friends who have been in Queenstown for some days, leave here to-morrow for Te Anau and Manapouri. Miss J. Nevill came from Dunedin on Saturday on a visit to Major and Mrs Peter Mackenzie at Walter Peak Station. Mr and Mrs B. C. Galloway were among tl passengers from Invercargill yesterday. They have gone into private residence on the Western terrace.

Dr Ben" am, of Dunedin, arrived here last evening. Mr George Miles, Queenstown, is on a visit to Australia.

Mr W. J Bowie, publisher of the Otago Daily Times, is holidaying here. Mr and Mrs John Scott, of Dunedin, returned to their holiday house in Queenstown during the week.
