AUCKLAND CAMERA CLUB.
THE BEST PHOTOGRAPHS. INTERCLUB COMPETITION WON BY DUNEDIN. (Special to Daily Times.)
AUCKLAND, January 9. The best photograph of the year at the Auckland Camera Club’s exhibition, according to the judges, is a powerful seascape entered by C. Boyer, of Wellington. It is entitled “ The Look Out,” and represents a' whale-chaser being towed through whaling ground by a tug, from the crow’s nest of which the lookout gazes over leaden wastes of ocean. It is a semisilhouette in outline, and has some marvellously beautiful cloud effects. The judges describe it as “ a masterpiece of composition, tone, abd quality.” The Dunedin Club is placed first. by the judges in the interclub competition. Not only is its display superior to other collections in uniform excellence, but it betrays welcome signs of originality in an exhibition which is singularly lacking in the imaginative quality. Second place is allotted to Wellington, which exhibits several splendid pictures. Auckland cannot be said to shine beside the work of its southern competitors.
