The Timaru Trotting Club’s summer meeting takes place on Saturday next. The crack pacer Jewel Pointer has been blistered and turned out for a spell. The Lyttelton Times reports that a recent addition to Nelson Price’s stable is the trotter The Toff. He does not seem to be too sound at present. The Toff has a good turn of speed, but is very erratic in hjs gait and not a good stayer. To which may be added, " Why train such a duffer?” P-eterwah displayed all his well-known speed at Auckland, but failed to get the big money. His owner is too keen an enthusiast to get out of the “cart” and let someone else hold the ribbons. Cardinal Logan looked the picture of condition when racing at Auckland, but failed to get amongst the big money. Perhaps he does not race so well on a “ reverse ” track. Team-driving, one of the worst phases of the light-harness sport in New Zealand to-day, is growing to an alarming proportion (says the Auckland Sun), if some of the incidents noticed at Alexandra Park during the recent fixture are a criterion of what is happening in other centres. Handicaps for the Forbury Park Trottiug Club’s meeting are due on the 12th inst. The Timaru Trotting Club’s meeting takes place on the same day. So far nothing more has been heard about the Forbury Park meeting clashing with the Wellington Cup meeting. Perhaps we live in a little world of our own, and nothing else matters. Hinkler is expected to take an improving mark during the progress of the present season. WELLINGTON WEIGHTS. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January D.
