LEAGUE OF THE EMPIRE.

INTERCHANGE OF TEACHERS. (Fboit Otra Own Correspondent.) LONDON, November 2.> ■a statement issued by the League of the Empire contains the interesting information that during the present year 100 teachers from the English, Scottish, and Welsh services had" gone overseas and teachers from Canada, Australia. South Africa, and New- Zealand have taken their places for one year in the Home services. During the Christmas holidays another 40 exchanges will be effected. Many new authorities in the Home Country ore taking part in the scheme. An increasing number of men teachers overseas are applying for exchanges. Applications for 1929 exchanges are now being dealt with, and any- teacher who desires to have further information is asked to communicate with Mrs Ord Marshall (hon. secretary, League of the Empire), 124 Belgrave road, Westminster. The Daily Telegraph expressed the view that any movement which tends to broaden the outlook of men and, women engaged in the work of education is d? serving of sympathy. It needs little imagination to perceive the great advantage which all concerned derive from such an interchange. The teachers themselves, by the experiences of travel and contact with fellow-workers in other lands, are put into possession of knowledge that cannot be learned from books. _ A further development of the same idea is now at hand in the proposal to arrange for an exchange of French and British students. Lord Derby, a former Ambassador to France, is shortly to entertain a conference on the subject at Crewe House, at which representatives of the trench Academy and of the British Government departments will be present. Spokesmen from the French universities will also take part, as well as others connected with the various Anglo-French societies which exist in both countries.
