A diplomatic hjtch between Tibet and Nepal may follow the introduction of tobacco into Tibet by Nepalese traders, who have popularised smoking, which is strictly • forbidden by the lamas. The Tibetans threaten drastic action, and the holy - men are determined to stamp out •smoking because “ the poisonous stench of tobacco will drive away our spirits, and cause sickness, pestilence, and perdition.” —Australian' Press Association.
