TYPHOID FEVER AT CLONCURRY, (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) BRISBANE, December 4. There arc now over 70 patients in the Cloncurry Hospital suffering from typhoid fever. No deaths have occurred, hut some of the cases are serious. Women and men volunteers are assisting the nursing staff, THE TANGO MARU’S WOOL. IN BAD CONDITION. BRISBANE, December 4. The steamer Kowarra brought 4528 bales of the Tango Mara’s wool to port. It was thoroughly inspected by the underwriters, who found it to be in bad condition. ■MAN ' ATTACKED BY COW. BADLY GORED IN STOMACH. SYDNEY, December 4. William Austin, aged S2, was attacked by a cow at Granville. He was badly gored in the stomach. The animal made repeated attacks, and twice threw him into the air until it was driven off by a passer-by. Twenty stitches had to be inserted in the wounds in the stomach. Austin’s condition is serious. DRINK IN NEW SOUTH WALES. BILL FOR THE YEAR. SYDNEY, December 4. The New South Wales drink bill for the year ended June 30 was £13,607,000, according to the ‘Government Statistician, which is equal to £5 13s 4d per head of the population, or 9d more than the previous year. The consumption totalled 28,325,000 gallons .of ■ beer, 1,732,000 gallons of wine, and’ 1,153,000 gallons of proof spirits. The excise duties amounted to a little over £500,000, SAVINGS BANK OFFICIALS. , SYDNEY, December 4. (Received Dec. 4, at 11 p.m.) Mr T. 11. Bavin to-day announced the retirement of Mr O'Malley Wood, president of the Government Savings Bank, and of Mr J. Davies, the third commissioner of the bank. He added that Mi H. D. Hall had been appointed president, while the two vacant commissionerships would be filled by the appointment of Mr R. May, chief inspector of the bank, and Mr A. Turner, the secretary.
