AUCKLAND, December 3 The popularity of building and loan societies in England and America and san»5 an »r n fj> generally were commented on by Mr David Pollock, managing director of the Dominion Banking and Investment Association and secretary of the Northern Building Society, who returned from a 10 months’ trip abroad by the Niagara from Vancouver. “All tlie great English banking houses are very friendly disposed toward buildim* societies,” stated Mr Pollock, “Thov recognise the soundness and importance of , the societies and assist them in every way. There .is no rivalry but only mutual benefit. As -an instance the banks remit and collect the fee of- exchange for building societies to all parts of Great Britain. Sir Josiah Stamp, who has been elected a director of the Bunk' of England, still retains considerable interests in an important building society,"
