(Fkoh Uur Own . Correspondent./ ALEXANDRA, December 3. During' the last week heavy rain fell on . _two_ occasions. The pastures were getting but are now showing a greener tinge. PERSONAL. Mr Bert Prater,- who' is on the staff of the Pensions Department at Christchurch, is on a holiday visit to his parents at Earnscleugh. Mr Charles Trott, oi the Audit Department, Welling ton, accompanied Mr Frater on his visit to, Central Otago. _Mr W ( A. Bodkin, M.P., paid a hurried visit to / Alexandra last week, and left again at the week-end for Wellington to j present; at the opening of Parliament. Mr Michaelis,. ; of .the Alexandra District , High 1 School, who has been in illhealth- fof Mine time, found it necessary to relinquish. his duties, and purposes going on . a holiday. - Mrs Roberts, a former high school teacher at. the school, is assisting the staff to carry on until tile end of . the term. The death occurred on November 27 of Mr Thomas Hawley, of Earnscleugh, at the age of 68 years. Mr Hawley in the early days of- the mining industry was engaged in ground sluicing on the west bank of the Molyneux River between Clyde and Alexandra, He has been a permanent resident of Earnscleugh since. Another Old resident of Alexandra, in the person of Mr Joseph Mountain, passed away at the Dunstan Hosp A last week . Captain T J. Watts, advisory superintendent of the United Fire Brigades' Association, was in Alexandra last week. He met the members of the Borough Council, and had a conference with members of the fire brigade As a result of l’is visit it is hoped the fire fighting appliances of the local brigade will bo very much improved. —ln shaving the blade of a razor travels over the face at something like 30 f miles an hour.
