CAR RUNS BACKWARDS. WOMAN PASSENGER KILLED. (Per United • Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 3. motor car accident which proved fatal to one of -the passengers occurred ai Pummerton yesterday afternoon, when a roadster, driven by L. White, of 202 i’otl Parade, Island Bay, went over a lUit bank. The victims of the accident were:—

The accident occurred about 1 p.m., when White was driving a car to Plimmerton. As he. was ascending the hill near the township he attempted to change from top to second gear, but the gear missed and the car ran backwards down the hill anti over a 10ft hank, coming to. rest , upside down in the bed of the creek.
People were quickly on the scene, and the victims were taken to Plimmerton and. the ambulance summoned, but Miss Lewis was dead before it .arrived. The other victims were attended to at le Coma House: by Mr Barlow, the proprietor. j .'

WELLINGTON, December 3. A motor accident occurred in the Taita Gorge' at au early hour this morning, Joseph O Neill, aged 36, ot Tahi street, Miramar, being killed. The car, a taxi was coming from Trentham to Wellington and went over a 30ft bank. Another passenger, whose name is unknown at present, received cuts on his face, and the driver {Ernest Walter Sergent) was badly shaken, otherwise hq was not hurt.
