WELLINGTON,' October 10. The Minister of Agriculture (Air O. J. Hawken) to-day confirmed the announcement that the Government had decided to renew for the 1029 season the guarantee on the export of fruit. The guarantee will be on the same basis as that which applied during the past season—namelv, 11s per case gross on extra fancy ami fancy grade apples and pears and 7s per case on good grade apples. The guarantee will apply only to certain varieties of fruit shipped under such conditions as are approved. The conditions will be substantially the same as those Tvhich operated during the 1928 season. The only alteration is a few minor changes in connection with the specifications of grades. The Minister stated that in agreeing to renew the guarantee the Government had in mind the great utility of the arrangement in assisting the growers to finance their operations. “ The amount, while sufficiently liberal for that purpose," he said, "is not high enough to involve the risk of large payments having to be met out of the Consolidated Fund as was shown by the experience of last season, when, although large shipments from both Australia and New Zealand Were made and prices in the European markets were not particularly high, the ejaims upon the guarantee were comparatively insignificant.” NEW ZEALAND MEAT. AIUTTON AND LAAIB POPULAR. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, October 10. In a tetter dealing with New Zealand meat in England Air H. R. MacKenzie (chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board) says:— “ I met Mr R. S. Forsyth, manager of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, in London, and we went through the Smithfield markets together. The Argentine chilled beef looked very fine alongi side ours, which comes out dark. ft appears that chilled beef goes off very quickly, and when the market is glutted it is sold very cheaply. Mr Forsyth tells me that our meat is taken by navy contractors and by big homes and institutions: otherwise our beef would get a bad run. However, our frozen mutton and lamb are very popular, and Canterbury lamb is sold at all first-class shops. Mr Forsyth tells me that the war did a lot for New Zealand meat.” N.Z. CO-OPERATIVE DAIRY COMPANY. TWO PROPOSALS REJECTED. (Per United Press Association.) HAAIILTON, October 10. MINING. MOLYNEUX ELECTRIC CLAIM. UNDER OFFER TO LONDON SYNDICATE. The secretary of the Molyneux Electric Gold Dredging Company, whose claim is under offer to a London syndicate, has received the following cablegram from London: —“Terms arranged with purchasers. Post option to me for six months in terms of your letter of August 13, and cable date of despatch. Urgent.— Payne.” The Molyneux Gold Dredging Company holds the whole of the Molyneux River, extending from Alexandra to the Fourteen Mile Beach, about 14 miles in all, of which the greater portion is said to be virgin ground. Mr Payne, who signed the cablegram, was formerly in business in Dunedin as an engineer and designer of gold dredges. He has resided in London tor many years, and his firm (Messrs F. W. Payne and Son) is connected with some of the largest tin dredging companies in the world. If the flotation eventuates shareholders in the Molyneux Electric Company will receive a good cash payment per share, besides a proportionate number of fully paid up shares in the London company. Mr Payne is well acquainted with the stretch of river under consideration, and as he is associated with a very wealthy group of mining investors, the flotation of the London company is likely to be successfully carried through.
