BOXING.

MILITARY TOURNAMENT. GOOD DISPLAYS BY CADETS. The third annual military boxing tournament, in which senior cadets of Area XI A, competed, was commenced in the Kensington Drill Hall last even ing. The contests, held under the aus pices of the Otago Boxing Association, provided some excellent entertainment, and several particularly willing bouts were witnessed. The arrangements for the staging of the tournament were such that the 25 bouts decided during the evening wore disposed of without a hitch, reflecting great credit on the organising work of the officials. The tournament was officially opened by Lieutenant-colonel H. E. Barrowdough, O.C. Ist Battalion, Otago Regiment, who said that it was very gratifying to see so many taking an interest in the work tiic boys were doing. Boxing as a sport should be encouraged, and he was sure there would be some good sport witnessed that evening. The judging of the contests was carried out by Messrs Doug. Paterson, H, Bowie, S. Brown, and Don Paterson, while Mr V. Parker was the referee. The military officials were: Lieutenant A. P. Roydhouse (master of ceremonies), Lieutenant Stoncliam, and S.S.M. Cummings, W.O.L. (timekeepers), S.M. Baldock and Corporal Monk (official seconds), S.M. Allen (dressing room steward). S.M. M’Kenzie (call steward), and S.M. Johnson (secretary). The results were as follow: — LIGHT-WEIGHT. H. J. Simon (9st 71b) beat B. 11. Braithwate (9st 21b) ; S. Frost (9st 71b) beat J. R. M’Farlane (9st 71b) ; L. G. Hill (9st Clb) beat G. The middle-weight boxing contest for a purse of £2OO between Ted Monsou list 61b (Australia) and Tommy M’lnnis list 141 b (Scotland) was held under the auspices of the Northern Boxing Association to-night, and resulted in _ a points decision for M’lnnis. The decision was fairly well received by a good house.
