ST. KILDA COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was held last evening, and w T as attended by the Mayor (Mr R. W. Hall), Crs Fleming, Longworth, Leary, Conn, Beattie, Telfcr, Roy and Gillam.
The accounts, distributed over various accounts, amounting to £2358, were passed for payment. The Minister of Internal Affairs had written to Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P., with regard to the inclusion of a clause in the Local Legislation Bill, authorising the council to contribute towards the election of certain buildings by the St. Kilda Beach Improvement Society that he had provisionally approved of the inclusion of the clause in the Bill.— Received and regarded as satisfactory. The A. and P. Society, writing as to the Otago Motor Club contemplating arranging a parking area for motor cars at St. Kilda, that it was not sure that permission came under the jurisdiction of the council, and pointed out that if the regulations now going on between manufacturers and the society were completed, it would be necessary that a parking area should be provided, and probably the position might suit both the motor people and the society. The society asked the council to meantime withhold its permission until after the society’s general meeting; called for September 27, when it was hoped that the proposals between the manufacturers and the society would be finally settled.—The mayor states that the motor club had conferred with the Beach Improvement Society as to a suitable place for ji parking area, and it had appeared m the press. As there was to lie a meeting between the Manufacturers Association and the A. and P. Society the later considered that a ground somewhat more adjacent to the park might be arranged for.—The letter was received. The Workers’ Educational Association wrote asking if the council would contribute its yearly subscription to the funds. —Usual grant to bo made. , Or Fleming mentioned that seats were required for Culling Park, the matter being referred to the Reserves Committee.
The water consumption for the last two weeks was reported to be 4,031,000 gallons at a cost of £IOO los (id. The cost for the two previous weeks had been £9B 11s.—Received.
On the motion of Cr Longworth it was resolved that a further letter lie written to the Mayor of the city (Mr W. B. Taverner) requesting him to call a meeting of interested bodies, to discuss the question of daylight saving in tlid town.
