MANUFACTURE OF CABLE
POSITION IN BRITAIN. OPERATIONS OF A RING. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, July 28. (Received July 29, at 5.5 p.m.) The Select Committee on the Estimates reports that, excepting two firms, the manufacture of cable is in the hands of a ring from which the post office buys £1,000,000 worth annually at a higher price than the ring quotes to the colonial and Irish Free State Govternments. It is of the opinion that the post office ought to have a free hand to accept foreign tenders if the British are excessive.—Australian Press Association —United Service.
