OTAGO HUNT CLUB.

MEET AT NORTH TAIERI. North Taieri was again the scene of much, . activity on Saturday afternoon, when the Otago Hunt Club’s weekly meet was held in summer-like weather. There was a splendid turn out of followers, as has been the case right through the season, but the attendance of spectators was smaller than usual, owing, no doubt % to the counter attraction at Carisbrook. Notwithstanding this, a large number motored out to witness the jumping, the main road and adjoining paddock being lined with cars. Among the interested spectators was Mr Pat O’Connor, who is over here with the Australian boxers. Mr O'Connor is a -keen hunting enthusiast, who has done a lot of hunting and show ring jumping in Australia. At the conclusion of the hunt he did some jumping on the deputy master’s horse. Kismet, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Mr 0 Connor was much impressed by the exhibition of jumping shown by the lady members of the club. The run was held over the properties of Messrs D. Leishman, A. P. Gibson, and J. Milner, these gentlemen having kindly placed their properties at the club’s disposal. The run extended over about two miles of excellent hunting country, the throw off taking place about 3.15 in Mr Leishman’s property. The hounds, picking up the scent quickly, and giving plenty of tongue, set off at a great pace, to be followed by some 25 odd riders, in charge of the deputy master (Mr A. Murdoch). The first jump was a gorse hedge on to the road, then into the adjoining paddock, over a post and rail. Coming through this paddock, the next jump was a hawthorne hedge, with a water ditch on the other side. This jump generally causes trouble to the less experienced riders, but all cleared it without a fall. The trail then led into Mr A. P. Gibson’s property, and, after coming through a ploughed paddock in this property, a gorse hedge was well cleared by all, which brought them into Mr Milner’s property, the next jump being a post and rail on to the main road, and then a gorse hedge. The remaining jumps in Mr Milners property comprised post and rails and gorse hedges, the run finishing by the followers jumping a gorse hedge on to the load again, and then over a heavy gate into a paddock, owned by Mr Milner. The going was very good, and the jumping was of a high standard. The iollowing racehorses were out putting In their final qualification run, all jumping well. Cassells, King Sol, and Water Baby (a chestnut gelding by Kilrain Bonme Pline, owned by Mr J. B. Blair, of Outram) . Next Saturday the club will hold a point-to-point steeplechase mating on Mr W. Rennick’e property at Wingatui, for which very good entries have been received.
