RACING IN ENGLAND. TOBOGGAN WINS OAKS STAKES. THE KING’S HORSE SECOND. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, June 8. The Oaks Stakes, of 9410sovs, for three-year-old fillies, about 14 m, resulted : Lord Derby's TOBOGGAN .. .. 1 His Majesty the King’s Seattle .. 2 Mr Somerville Tattersall’s Flegere .. 3 ' Thirteen started. Won by four lengths; six lengths between second and third. Strong hopes were entertained that the King would to-day, on Epsom Downs, win the Oaks Classic Race for three-year-old fillies. His filly Scuttle was a hot favourite, but could only finish second, being beaten by four lengths. Lord Derby, by the victory of Toboggan, obtained some compensation for the. failure of his colt Fairway in the Derby. The winner, Toboggan, b f, by Hurry On—Glacier, won £3528 in stakes in 1927 in four starts, winning the Champion Breeders’ Foal Plate, of £IO3B, at Derby; the Boscawan (Post) Stakes (£900), at Newmarket; won Dewhurst Stakes (£1590) at Nawmarket, and was third in Maiden Plate (£390), at Kempton Park; won by Maquillage. Ridden in all engagements by T, W eston. Scuttle, b f by Captain Cuttle —Stained Glass, won £2947 in stakes in 1927. Won Fitzwilliam Stakes (£277 at Doncaster; second Queen Mary Stakes (£3240) to Stadacona at Ascot; won Berkshire Foal Stakes (£840) at Newbury; won Cheveley Park Stakes (£830) from Tetrill at Newmarket, unplaced Wilbraham Stakes at Newmarket. Flegere, ch f by Grand Parade—Coprie. Ran unplaced Chesham Stakes at Ascot, Great Kingston T.Y.O.
