WEST COAST MINERS.
WAGES AND CONDITIONS. AN AGREEMENT REACHED. (Special to Daily Times.) WELLINGTON, June 9. With only a few minor amendments the existing agreement between the West Coast miners and the coal owners has been renewed for a further terra of two years. An announcement to this effect was made to-day by Mr T. O. Bishop, the secretary of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation. ■ Mr Bishop, who returned from the Coast this morning, stated that the conference with the miners had extended over seven days. The agreement reached was subject to ratification by the miners’ organisations, and meetings were being held on June 17 to receive the report of the delegates. Engine drivers and mechanics employed at the mines who were working under a separate agreement were considering renewing their agreement for a period of two years. Mr Bishop stated that two local disputes—one at Denniston and one at Millerton —had been satisfactorily settled while he was on the Coast. The position of miners employed in the Waikato and Hikurangi districts will bo considered at a conference to be held in Auckland, commencing on June 20.
