REVISED PRAYER BOOK
DEBATE ON THE MEASURE. OPENING ON WEDNESDAY. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, June 8. (Received June 10, at 5.5 p.m.) The principal parliamentary event this week will be the debate which proceeds on Wednesday and Thursday on the Revised Prayer Book. The measure will be moved by Sir Boyd Merriman, the newly-appointed Solicitor-general, and the Prime Minister will, on Thursday, wind up the debate for the spporters. The opponents of the measure have not yet arranged their speakers. PRECAUTIONARY STEP. PREPARING ANOTHER BOOK. SPECIAL COMMITTEE ENGAGED. LONDON, June 8. (Received-June 10, at 5.5 p.m.) Sir W. Joynson-Hicks announces that in the event of the rejection of the Revised Prayer Book in the House of Commons, a competent committee has already been engaged in the task of producing a book covering the noncontentious enrichments and variations in the deposited book, which he has reason to believe will be generally acceptable. If the bishops’ goodwill is secured it will quickly be presented ’ to the Church Assembly. Therefore the House of Commons, if it rejects the Prayer Book, will have an opportunity of dealing with obsolete rubrics and other points to which the Archbishop of Canterbury referred.—Australian Press Association.
