MOTOR SHIP MAUI POUABE. A change has been made in the Itinerary of the Government's new motor ship Maui Pomare, which reached Wellington on June 1. from England. The vessel was due a.t Auckland yesterday. She will dock to-morrow for extensive overhaul and refitting. In consequence her departure from Auckland for Niue Island and Apia has been postponed until June 23. NORWEGIAN MOTOB SHIP BANJA. With nearly 3,000,000 gallons of bulk oil for the Atlantic Union Oil Company, the new Norwegian motor ship Banja reached Auckland from Los Angeles on the morning of June 5. She unloaded 700X100 gallons Into the company's tanks at Freeman's Bay, and a similar amount will be landed at Wellington, about 500,000 gallons at Melbourne, and 1,000,000 gallons at Sydney. From Sydney she will probably return to America to again load bulk oil for New Zealand and Australia. The Banja is on her maiden voyage, and is differently constructed to the other motor tankers that have visited Auckland. She is built on the King Foster system, which is standardised in Scandinavia. From the engine room,, which is aft, she has three longitudinal sections! which reach to the forepart of the fore deck. The top of the middle section is 6ft above the deck and over it is a bridge fore and aft- The middle section is divided Into eight tanks, and the side sections each into four tanks. On the forepart of the longitudinal sections Is a hold for the carriage of case oil or general cargo. The crew numbers 35 all told. Captain P E Arnesen and his ofjpers have roomy quarters on the bridge deck. The engineers and seamen live aft. Besides the ordinary spark wireless outfit the vessel carries a shortware transmitter capable of transmitting messages to Europe. No special wireless operator is carried, the chief and second officers being both certificated operators. Fine weather prevailed on the voyage, and the speed averaged 11 knots. OVERSEAS SUMMARY.
