PSYCHOLOGY OF COLOUR.
The theory that every person has his or her own particular colour or group of colours is besoming more generally recognised. It is borne out by the many women who prefer to wear frocks of a certain shade or sit in a room decorated in a certain colour. It is believed that colour can influence to a tremendous extent the outlook and even the character of people, states an exchange. The ancients who described the effects of red, blue, and yellow on humanity and their experiments with colour coincide with up-to-date proofs. They believed that red gave joy to life, being the colour of the blood, which is the life force. Modern colour scientists state that red acts as a stimulant to nervous energy and makes for activity. .... Blue was considered a spiritual sedative then; to-day blue is the colour chosen to calm’ the mind and steady the nerves. Yellow, it was believed, helped man to concentrate on ■ acquiring wisdom. Strangely enough, the experts here • declare that practically every intellectual person with whom they came in contact prefers yellow. In the olden days people who vibrated yellow rays were taught the beneficial qualities of the soporific shade of violet, which to them was the colour of rebirth.
