THE OLYMPIC GAMES
ATTACKED BY DAILY EXPRESS. (Press Association— B» Toicemiih—cvpyricht I LONDON, March 9. (Received March 11, at 5.6 p.m.) In an outspoken attack on the Olympic Games the Daily Express, in an editorial, says that it is painfully clear that the games have been always a woeful disappointment. They leave behind them a trail of resentments, suspicions, and disputes. instead of improving fh e atmosphere and standards of sport. Their influence is definitely lowering. The competitors are not merely the men and women participating, but the committees and nations they represent. This introduces politics, with the invariable result—friction, illwill, accusations, and recriminations. Britain loves foreign competitors at the Wimbledon Olympia, but for over-orga-nised, semi-professional, Geneva-like gatherings usurping the time-honoured name of Olvmpic Games she finds no enthusiasm. The best thing that England can, do is to drop out entirely.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
