The Federal Line steamer bevm, which is unloading basic slag at Auckland, is scheduled to sail on March Hi for Nelson. Picton, Lyttelton, and Wellington to load for Montevideo, London, and Hull. The Karetu, from South Australian ports, was to leave Portland last Thursday for New Plymouth. She is due at Wellington tomorrow, and later will proceed to Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. The Kr.nna has been bar-bound at Greymouth. but was expected to leave there last Wednesday night, tor Westport, thence Dunedin, Bluff, and Wellington. THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL. The R.M.S. Makura, from Francisco and Papeete, left Rarotonga at 5 p.m. on Monday last for Wellington. The vessel is due at the northern port this morning, and will leave again to-morrow afternoon for Sydney. PAKEHA'S LOADING PORTS. The Shaw-Saviii liner Pakeha is duo at Auckland on March 22 from Australia to commence loading for England. She will also load at Opua, Timaru, Bluff, AYoliington, and Port Chalmers. The vessel is due here on April 13. and will said finally from Port Chalmers on April 15 for London, via Montevideo and Teneriffe. IKALA FROM CANADA. Scheduled to arrive at Auckland yesterday, the steamer Ikala is bringing general merchandise from St. John (New Brunswick) and Sydney (Cope Breton), for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, New Plymouth, Sydney and Melbourne. CARGO FROM PACIFIC COAST. The American steamer West Conob was to leave San Pedro on March 6 with cargo from Pacific Coast ports for discharge at Auckland. Wellington, Dunedin and Bluff. She is due at Auckland on April 2. OTARAMA AND PORT- HACKING SOLD. A ealegram from London states that the steamer Otarama has been sold by the New Zealand Shipping Company to Italian buyers. The cable also states that the steamer Port Hacking has been sold by the Commonwealth and Dominion Line also to Italian buyers. THE ANGLO-COLUMBIAN. An alteration has been raado in the itinerary of the Anglo Columbian. Instead of loading at Auckland and Wanganui, the vessel will leave Wellington to-day for Napier and Port Chalmers to complete loading. Tho Andrew Weir steamer Roseric left Bunbury on February 21 with a cargo of hardwood for Auckland and southern ports. The vessel, formerly known as the War Parrot, was built in 1918 by Sir J. Lalug, of Sunderland, and is registered as 5240 tons gross. She was due at Auckland yesterday. WHALING WRECK RECALLED. Tlie stranding of the Norwegian whaler C. A. Larsen at Stewart Island on February 31 comes close to the seventieth anniversary of the loss of an American whaling ship, the Alexander, which met disaster in Cook Strait after a very successful cruise of ever two years in the South Sens.. The Alexander, a 421-ton ship, struck a reef six miles oft shore, near Cape Campbell. The captain succeeded in beaching the ship and a few days later an auction sale was hold. Tho amount of coal (including hunkers) shipped at Newcastle during the week ended February 10, for places beyond the State was 63,987 tons, of which 43,955 tons represented shipments for Commonwealth and New Zealand ports, tho remainder being for foreign ports. Line the motor ship Ashburton arrived at Dunedin on Saturday morning from New York, via Panama. Suva, Auckland, Wellington and Lyttelton. Tho vessel was berthed at the Victoria wharf to discharge a , quantity of American cargo. Besides general freight .the Ashburton has 2000 tons of iron pipes ’which she loaded at Manchester for discharge at Port Lincoln. It is the largest quantity of pipes that has been shipped from Manchester in one steamer since the war. The pipes are foe use in connection with a large irrigation scheme in Australia. From Manchester to New York the Ashburton experienced a stormy voyage and her passage across the Atlantic was _ beset by continuous westerly g-algs, but she did not

sustain any damage. During the voyage from New York to Auckland generally fair weather prevailed. ? The Ashburton is owned by the Australind Steam Ship Company. She was formerly owned by the Henderson Line, her name then being the Yoraah. Under this name the ship made a voyage from New York last year to Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin under charter to the Commonwealth and Dominion Line. Captain A.
