ACTION AGAINST THE MUSTARD CLUB Writ issued by Messrs. Sausage & Mash “ UNDUE MYSTIFICATION ” This was an a certiorari action before the Master of the Sausage Rolls. The Plaintiff pleaded “ undue mystification.” What was this Mustard Club? Who was its president, the Baron de Beef ? He could not find his name in Debrett. Why should he, the plaintiff, be asked by his children whether he, as a father, had joined the Mustard Club ? He was a firm believer in Mustard. He was already teaching his children to preserve their digestions by eating Mustard. He never ate mutton without Mustard, much less a sandwich. He invariably took a Mustard Bath after playing Golf. Was he or was he not an ipso facto and de jure member of the aforesaid Club ? He therefore called for immediate discovery of the documents in the case. Sir Julius Poloni, in reply, entered an alibi or alternatively pleaded habeas corpus. He was' constrained to admit that Miss Di Gester, the Secretary of the Mustard Club, was guilty of occasional neglige ; but it had been laid down in the Plouse of Lords that this was not a tort. He also referred his lordship to Coke on Materia Calida, wherin it was stated that “ hot stuff ” did.not in. itself constitute an offence in Barratry. He submitted, therefore, that the action did not lie.
