PALMERSTON NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON, February 1. The Palmerston District High School Committee’s monthly meeting was held on Monday evening. The notification of the appointments to the position of fourth assistant of Miss Annie C. Scott and Miss W. Murray (probations ), and Miss K. A. Bishop (substituted assistant) werO received. The main business of the meeting was the proposed dental clinic. The Department of Health (Division of Dental Hygiene) notified that a dental nurse would be available in March, provided that a building for a dental clinic would be ready. The committee discussed the proposed plans and eventually decided to support the proposal to build an addition to the present cookery room. It was decided to ask the board to supply plans and estimate for this work. The members of the committee and headmaster were unanimous, in expressing their satisfaction at the prospect of having so valuable an adjunct as a dental clinic attached to the school. As urgent steps were necessary to raise the district’s proportion of the cost it was decided to adopt the direct method of personal appeal, and the matter will be brought before residents for their financial support. The work of asphalting the remaining portion of the school grounds has been carried out during the recess. A larger area of asphalted playground will be much appreciated, especially in the wet weather, and better facilities will be available for the children’s games, etc.
