STRANGE MURDER CASE
f TWO DIFFERENT VERSIONS. A SENSATION AT OLD BAILEY. (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, January 31. (Received Feb. 1, at 9 p.m.) A sensation was caused at the Old Bailey when William Rust, aged 21, was charged with murdering his father and two young brothers. The prosecution suggested that Rust saw red on hearing his father say that he had evidence of the mother’s infidelity, and threatening to kill her lover. Rust thought the best thing would be to kill all those likely to suffer from the mother’s action. Counsel, outlining the defence, said that the real explanation was utterly different. The case was strange beyond understanding. Rust was an unselfish son and devoted to his father and young brothers. He actually reached Jjome after the father had killed the two boys and committed suicide. Then accused, beside himself with grief, decided that it would be best to accuse himself of the crime. Evidence was tendered to show that the father’s wounds were compatible with suicide. The hearing was adjourned.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
