Feb 24, 25. —Woodville District J.C. Feb 25, 27. —Te Aroha J.C Feb. 29. March 1.-Dannevirke K.C. Acceptances for the first day of the Dunedin Cup meeting are due to-morrow An unfortunate accident occuued at Wingatui yesterday morning. ia>,or rode the two-year-old Statuette fil.y at exercise, and when he was leaving the track she reared and fell back witli hi at the crossing. Tavlor broke his left leg near the thigh. br Speddmg arrived promptly in response to a telephone cab, and did all that was possible for the boy Trior to his removal in an ambulance. The plough track at Wingatui is in good roing order at the present time. The Wingatui grass tracks are quite refreshing to the eye in appearance, but nevertheless could do with a good fad ra Black Duke is a bad traveller, as he lightens ud considerably when taken away from home. At the present t.me he looks in good shape. , . Cartoon continues to stand up to ins ■work, and seems to be sound again. Receipt has apparently- not been asked to do a great deal on the track of late, but looks bright and wel, for her engag ments next week. . Kapuna is bowling along freely m useful tasks at Wingatui. Overhaul soon packs on condition and now looks bigger and more robust than •when raced on the final day of the Wellington Cup meeting. Booster has built up since he came back from Trentham, but owing to being eased in his work may be quite at his best during the Dunedin Cup meeting. Good as Gold keeps big and lusty in condition, and should not fail on the score of being out of racing shape. The cross-country horse, Lochplla, continues to get through useful work at Wingatui. . . Set Sail cantered a couple of circuits on the plough at Wingatui yesterday, and has not suffered any damage by the three hard races she had at the Wellington Cup meeting. TT ... It is understood that Celerity II will not fulfil her engagement in the Dunedin Cup. She is in the paddock, and will be treated to a spell. Licinius and Lucky Days have been sold to a West Australian buyer. Reports from Christchurch state that Countersign and Rotor are unlikely to fulfil their engagements at the Dunedin Cup meeting. . „ . ?so fewer than 16 English-bred horses figure among thf entrants for the Kmg s Cup, to be run at Randwick in April. Cimbrian, a two-year-old half-brother to the sensational Heroic, made his debut under silk at a meeting held recently in Victoria, and, though he did not win. he is credited with making a pleasing effort; in fact, “ Teacon,” of the Mebourne Leader, remarked that he ran well enough to suggest that he is likely to develop into a top-class performer. Cimbrian is a descendant of Devizes, who is by Valens (son of Laveno), who traces to Bend Or. Valais, who begat Heroic, was a descendant of Cicero, who also traced to Bend Or on the sire’s side, so that there is a great deal to interest in viewing the future of Cimbrian. Reports from Melbourne state that the crack three-year-old Trivalve has done well during - his spell, and the track watchers at Fiemington are more than pleased with the way the chestnut looks. He has not altered to any great extent, but has grown and thickened slightly. He is already doing useful work, and ae should be fit’ to do himself full justice by the time the Victoria Racing Club s autumn meeting comes along. At present it is extremely hard to see any of the other three-year-olds troubling him in the Legers, as the longer distance will be in his favour. Winalot and Statesman aro perhaps the most likely to chase Trivalve home as, although Winalot did not show his bes form in Melbourne there is no doubt that he is a good colt. _ His Eosehill Guineas win and ’ second in the Australian Jockey Club Derby proved that conclusively. Of Statesman good opinions were formed when he ran second in the Victoria Cnp. TROTTING. FIXTURES. February 2.—Takaka T.C. February 4. —Cheviot T.C. February 11. —N.Z. Metropolitan T.C. With a round to go in the Metropolitan Handicap at Forbury Park on Saturday St. Maura was moving nicely, and looked like coming on to -11 a p’":e. She stopped in the last little bit, ut her performance left the impression that she may win over two miles in ihe -ear future. Bonny Logan finished on well ii. ?r two races last week, and with cenditions more in her favour she should show up well over a two-mile journey before the season is through. Sarsaparilla has a nice turn of speed, but as yet does not control it well. He trotted very solidly and very fast over the last circuit to get up and beat Sea Queen in the last stride of the Gore Handicap. All Peters may never reach good company, but his steadiness will help him to win further races. Machine Gun was bothered by the bends at Forbury Park, but paced wefi in the straight stretches, and on a bigger course he will carry bis speed without having to he checked. One of the most promising pacers seen out at last meeting was Dundas Boy, and he looks sure to reach the best of company. He has an effortless action on ■which to build his undoubted speed, and R. Perry has seldom driven a more confident race than he did behind the chestnut in his winning effort on S .turday. Oval has speed enough to win among the loose-class trotters, but she is liable to lift at any time, and is a bad breaker. The first time she goes a level race she ■will get the heavy end of a stake. Arctotis showed fine bursts of speed in his races last week, but put in several bad breaks that cost him any chance he had. He has a costly proposition for the St. Kilda stable presided over by C. Hadfield, but it looks onl a matter of time for him to return his purchase money. Nan Brent is very well at present, and may be found pacing prominently in her next outing, that is if the field is not sent away while she is fr-ing the wrong way, as she —as on ‘-’iturday. Golden Devon stopped badly at the end of his races last week, and .pparently miles is bejond him.

Brentloc is probably the most brilliant beginner in commission, and can pace a merry mile. He is, however, a very hard puller, and J. M’Lennan usually has difficulty in getting him ' conserve a little of his energy for the run home. Daphne De Oro promises to i ep her way into the best of company. The weight of investments predicted that she would run well in her outing on Saturday and she was in a winning position a log way from home. Five starters were posted for the Flying Handicap at the meeting o' tl e New §outh Wales Trotting Club n January 23, but it was discovered that me of them, Nikola, was lame, and he was withdrawn. When betting recommenced Delavan's Quest was made a short-priced favourite starting at odds-ou. He won well, recording 2min T2scc for the mile, which is a quarter of a second outside his own record for the race. At his top in the fist furlong, he was soon pressing the pacemaker, Glad Eye, who i.eiertholess him#; on well. Tn the run to the post Delavan’s Quest had almost drawn level with Glad Eye, when the latter broke, leaving the fa.onritc to run home a winner by a length and a-half from Fulham Bells, with Glad Eye third two lengths further behind. It was a good display. TAPANUI RACES. LVDY M’KENNA wins chief HANDICAP. ( Fkosi Our Special Reporter.) GORE, February 1. The Tapanui Racing Club’s meeting attracted a large attendance from all parts of Otago, while Southland was well represented. Perfect weather prevailed, and the track was dry and hard, but rough .n places. The fields were small except in the Trial States and the trotting races, and sveral inquiries tended to decrease the totr.lisator investments.
