UNEMPLOYED TEACHERS.
PROBLEM OF SECURING POSITIONS. (Pee United Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH. February 1. The problem of finding employment for teachers qualified at a training college, and unable to secure positions, was discussed by the Taranaki Education Board with the Minister of Education (Mr R. A. Wright) to-day. In Taranaki there were 35 such teachers out of employment. It was suggested to the Minister that the difficulty could be overcome by reducing the sizes of some classes now obviously too large. .... Mr Wright agreed to give this suggestion serious consideration on his return to Wellington. It had been suggested, he said, that trainees should enter college at varying periods of the year so that all would not come out at once, since it had been found that unemployed teachers generally were abso~bed towards the end of the year, but he did not think the scheme was practicable. . The Minister this afternoon, officially opened the new hostel at the Girte High School—a fine structure, costing £23,900.
