PRISONERS HELPED TO ESCAPE. QUICKLY RECAPTURED. (Press Association—Bv Telegraph - Copyright. I SYDNEY. January 30. (Received Jan. 30, at 5.5 p.m.) As the result of assistance "rom some person or persons outside, two prisoners escaped from Wollongong Gaol. The police found that several bars had been forced from an iron grille which surmounts the exercise yatd wall, malting an opening through which a man could easily wriggle. The helper then appnrentlv walked along a short passage to the cells of his. friends and supplied a jemmy, with wliLli the locks of the doors wore broken. The same instrument was used to force the back door of the gaol, through which the prisoners gained their freedom. Immediately the authoiities weer notified of the escape nil the police stations in the State were warned, and He men were hter recaptured at Gosford, nearly 100 miles away. Then boots were almost torn to pieces. Tbev raid tbev had received occasional lifts, b-f, their feet were blistered, and they offered little resistance when discovered.
