The first meeting of the year of the the Loyal Tuapeka Pioneer Lodge, M. was presided over ' y the N. Bro. E. Weatherall, the newlyelected officers being in their re-. spective chairs. Members are taking a keen interest in the 1000 membership campaign for 1928. Four new candidates were initiated with due ceremony, P.G.’s Dimock and M’Donald and Garr acting as conductors, and the Lecture Master, P.G. R. C. Moore welcoming the newly-initiated members. A notable event in connection with the meeting was the presence of father, son, and two grandsons, all members of the Order. It was decided to discuss the auditor’s report and annual balance sheet next lodge night. The* newly-installed officers were complimented on the able manner in which the' meeting was conducted. After the close of business a pleasant social hour was spent in song and story, Bros. Moore, Angus, Garr, Carruthers, and Pearson, sen., contributing to the programme. The toast of visiting brethren WBa responded to by P.G. Bro. Angus (Loyal Hand and Heart, Dunedin, Lodge. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Dunedin Lodge was held in the M.XJ. Hall, Stuart street, on Thursday evening, a fair attendance of Members being present* including a good proportion of older members. One new member was initiated with the uusual formalities, and one candidate was proposed for membership. The case of a brother in distress was brought before the lodge, and it was decided to make a grant from the distress fund to keep him financial on the books of the lodge. Some discussion took place on the 1000 membership campaign. The ordinary meeting was then adjourned and the adjourned summoned meeting reopened. A presentation was first made of a framed emblematic certificate to PG. Bro. Lazarus, the retiring grand master. P.G. Alexander, in making the presentation, referred in appreciative terms to the work done by Bro. i/azarua. Bro. Lazarus suitably .responded. The annual report and balance sheet, which disclosed a highly satisfactory position as regards the lodge funds, was submitted by the senior auditor, P.G. Bro.'Uitford presiding. It was resolved that a letter be forwarded to P.G. Bro. G. Nelson. of the Prince of Wales adult lodge, expressing sympathy with him in his illness, together with best wishes for his early recovery. Bro. Nelson has been a keen worker in connection with the forming of a mouth organ’ band. A donation from Mr G. Todd, of Pott Chalmers, towards the social funds of the lodge was accepted with thanks. At the close of business a “ question box " was held. It was decided to entertain members’ parents and friends nest lodge night. One candidate was proposed for membership. • There was a big muster of members at the adjourned summoned meeting of the Loyal Band of Friendship Lodge, at which a considerable r mount of business was transacted, including a complete revision of the lodge rules. During the evening one candidate was initiated into the Order and one nomination'for membership was received. Arrangements were completed for the official visit from sister lodges on February 4. There was a full attendance of members at the “1000 New Member Campaign Committee last Tuesday, evening* the P.G.M. Bro. P. Stabb being in the chair. The P.G.M. extended a cordial welcome to Permanent Secretary Bro.. Ransome, of the Loyal Milton Lodge, who is a member of the committee. P.G. Bro. P. Thomson, an old member of the Hand and Heart Lodge, now living in Tapanui, was present by invitation. Several members reported that their lodge committees had met, and had drawn up a campaign programme. Special official visits would be held throughout the district during the year, and every effort would be made to get into touch with young men who were desirous of providing against accident and sickness. It was decided to forward a circular to all lodges expressing appreciation of their whole-hearted support, and outline a few special features that were applicable to all lodges. A sub-committee was appointed to go into several other proposals and report next meeting. It was decided to be fully represented at the official visit of sister lodges at the Oaversham Lodge on Wednesday, February 1. It was decided to hold the hert meeting on the return of the District Executive from visiting the lodges in Central Otago.
