BOY SCOUT MOVEMENT
A RECORD OF PROGRESS. BIG INCREASE IN NUMBERS. (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON. January 27. (Received Jan. 29. at 5.5 p.m.) “If we needed additional encouragement, it exists in the recent declaration of war on Boys Scouts by the Communists, who recognised that our building up of loyal, sensible citizens is detrimenetal to their effort to pervert youth,” said Sir Robert Baden-Powell at the annual meetin- of the Bov Scouts’ Association. The scouts throughout the Empire number 582,223. an increase of 60,076 on last year, and 1,711,643 are training in 42 countries throughout the world. The visit of the Duke and Duchess of York to Australia and New Zealand gave a great fillin to the movement. Sir Tvobert Baden-Powell emphasised that scouts throughout the world will gathe>- in England to celebrate the movement’s coming f c age at the twentv-first Grnbouree in 1929. and he read the King’s messa-e saving that the enrolment of millions of vonths in the world inspired with high ideals is a triumphal advance towards the promotion of international brotherhood.—A. and N.Z.
