THE PAYER SHAM CONTEST. A CONSERVATIVE SUCCESS. (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, January 26. The Favers-ham by-election, owing to Lieutenant-colonel Sir Granville Wheler’s death, resulted: — Mr A. Maitland (Conservative) 12,997 Major Aman (Labour) .. .. 11.313 Mr Dun (Liberal) 5,813 Mr E. A. Hailwood (Independent) Conservative) 1,090 —A. and N.Z. and Sydney Sun Cable. The polling at the last general election was:—Sir G. Wheler (Con.), 14,432; Rev. S. J. W. Morgan (Lab.), 9180; A. J. Solomon (Lib.), 7132. Mr Hailwood (self-styled “Hustling Hailwood”) loses his deposit, as he did also in the Southend by-election two months ago.
