FOREIGN MISSION BOARD. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, January 27. The annual meeting of the Foreign Mission Board of the Methodist Church, of New Zealand was held in the Pitt Street Church under the chairmanship of the Rev. Dr H. Ranston, president of the conference. The financial statement presented hy the Rev. G. T. Marshall showed that the income for 1927 from all sources totalled £IB.OBB. Of this amount the New Zealand church contributed £18,569, and the native church in Solomon Islands group £4519. The special items included were £2OOO from the Young Men’s Bible Class Union towards the salary of the medical missionary, and £B6 from the Dominion Sunday schools for a surf boat for use at Bougainville. The report was presented through the Government Commissioner in the Solomons from Dr E. C. Sayers, the recentlyappointed medical missionary, revealing the great need of extensive work to combat diseases prevalent among he natives. An encouraging endorsement of the board’s policy is shown in the Commonwealth Government’s action jn granting an annual subsidy of £2OO, with the promise of a liberal supply of drugs to the estimated value of £2OO, and transport and other facilities. It was reported that later in the yegr Dr Clifford James, who has completed training in the School of Tropical Medicine, Loudon, and has gained the diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, will proceed to the field. Steps were taken towards the establishment ol a hospital, to be. known as tho “ Helena Goldie Hospital.”
