TAKAPUNA RACES.

(Pee United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, January 27. The summer meeting of the Takapuna Jockey Club is to be held to-morrow and on Mond'ay, and present indications point to the fixture being successful. Good fields have been paid up for to-morrow, and the racing promises to be first-class. There is a field of 22 engaged in the Trial Stakes, and here opinion appears to be equally divided between High Tide, Storrnfiond. Liaison, Micrometer, Brilliant Light, Cynthian, and Laroma, and the draw at the barrier will be the final guide as to the actual favourite. It looks as if the (("appointing Bold Front has his chance at last in the Higbweight Handicap. The Magpie gelding will be ridden by G. Holland, and this combination should show the imported gelding as good favourite. The hardest opponent he has to beat will be Red Comet, ridden by S. Henderson. The Stewards’ Handicap is now the third race on the card, and in this Nancy Lee, who showed fine form at Ellerslie during the holidays, will be in big demand, and so, too, will High Finance. There are other smart sprinters engaged in Dave, Melisha, and Tea Time, but the first-mentioned pair will carry the money. A very even field is left in the Takapuna Cup, with nothing outstanding, unless it is Eden Hall, who finished fourtc in the Auckland Cup. However, he does not always run up to expectations, and it is probable that Desert Glow will finish in front of him. Pegaway has a good weight. Transformer has not shown any form for some time. Alonsoa will set a merry pace, and may see it out. _ Scat and Wedding March complete the list of acceptors, but when all is said and done, one comes back to Desert Glow and Eden Hall. Welcome Home and Abbey Day are likely to be heavily supported in the Ferry HancAeap. This race bears a very open aspect. ■ Mauiaena did a brilliant gallop at Takapuna this morning, cutting out ha a mile in 47 2-ssec, and this will probably result in the filly being made favourite for the Calliope Handicap for two-year-olds. Her most dangerous opponents will be The Begum and the improving Mithra. Quinsilia and Baby Bun will command respect in the Hauraki Hack Handicap, and in another open race, the Zealand]a Handicap, Mr Jamieson’s stable holds a strong hand_ with Ti Tree and The immigrant. Whichever of these two is started will be favourite, and of the others Princess Ronnie has been galloping well at Ellerslie.
