MINERS’ STRIKE.

TROUBLE AT HIKURANGI. (Per United Press Association.) WHANGAREI, January 27. Work at Wilson's mine, Hikurangi, ceased last evening owing to the i,’imager dismissing a trucker on account of decreased operations. The manager declined the men's proposal for share work, thus enabling the dismissed operative to earn a livelihood. The manager stated that the trucker in question was only a casual hand, engaged three months ago. Approximately 150 employees are affeeteo. A meeting of the union was held to-day to consider the position. It was decided to lay the matter in dispute before the directors of the company at Auckland next Tuesday, and delegates were appointed for the purpose. In the meantime the mine remains idle.
