A Bill lias been introduced in the Bombay Legislative Council to prevent early marriages between Hindus. There are now in the Bombay Presidency alone 74,000 married children under the age of five years, of which number 3500 are widows. There are nearly 350,000 married children between the ages of five and ten. The Bill aims at stopping all marriages between girls under 12 and boys under 16.
