Mr W. Paget Gale returned to Dunedin yesterday after a holiday visit po Timaru and Christchurch. Dr Kelly (editor of the Tablet) left Dunedin yesterday morning for Wellington to attend the funeral of the late Dean Regnault. Mr A. J. Baker, of the Public Works Department, was a passenger by yesterday’s express for the north, bound fot Wellington. Mr S. H. Price, who is at present in Christchurch, and was previously manager of the Friendly Societies’ Dispensary <*v Oamaru, has been chosen from a number of applicants as manager of the Port Chalmers Friendly Societies’ Dispensary. The Rev. Hector Maclean, who nas been appointed to the Ormond College, Melbourne, left Dunedin by the Manuaa last night. He is accompanied by Mrs Maclean and family. A number, of parishioners of St. Andrew’s Church gathered on the Rattray street wharf to bid farewell to their departing minister. Mr J. P. Burt, the chairman of the Macandrew Road School Committee, is removing to Oamaru. At a meeting of the committee appreciative reference was made to his work during the 10 years ne has been a member, for nine of which he was treasurer. In wishing him success in his new sphere the members presented him with a Leowe pipe. A cablegram from London states that Burgomaster Max, of Brussels, whose defiance of the Germans during the war stirred the world, has arrived in London. and is the guest of the Lord Mayor at the Mansion House. On the occasion of his approaching marriage, Mr Maurice Faithful, of the mechanical staff of the Otago Daily Times, was presented by his colleagues with a set of cutlery. Mr G. Bowron (printer), in making the presentation, congratulated Mr Faithful on his promotion from ” that fast diminishing band ” of single men, and wished him every happiness. Mr Faithful made an appropriate reply.
