The man whom It was said American law could not hang has hanged himself in his cell in Chicago. He was Russell T. Scott, a one-time millionaire stockbroker, who was sentenced to death for the murder of a chemist’s assistant in 1923. Five times Scott escaped execution. On one occasion he was reprieved on the strength of a telegram purporting to come from his brother confessing to the crime, and twice he was declared Insane.
