DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. During the school holidays the Otago Education Board’s staff has been engaged in remodelling practically the whole of th a interior of the Tokomairiro District High School. The finishing touches in plastering and painting are now being applied, and the board’s architect anticipates that the school will be ready for the reopening on Wednesday, February 1. Several of the classrooms have been completely redesigned, floors raised, and windows altered, while a new room has been provided for the headmaster, and there is a special room for the teaching staff. Tho extensive alterations have been designed and carried out with the object of providing better lighting and improved ventilation. The whole work was centred on the interior of the school, with the exception of providing larger and additional windows. BOWLING. The South Otago honours board fixtures for Saturday are Baldutha v. Owaka, at Owaka; Benhar v. Kaitangata, at Kaitangata; Milton v. Stirling, at Milton. The Milton team will be a s follows; M'Cormack, Wilson, Clark. Clayton, Smith, Cleary, Devanney, Henderson, Moron ey, Scoon, M'Kechnie, Moore. ■TRUCKING OF STOCK. Under the Railways Department’s regulations stock for Burnside sales must be trucked at Milburn railway station on the mornings prior to sale days. The stock is thence conveyed by a goods train to Mosgiel in the afternoon, where it stops until taken forward by a train leaving Milton in the evening. Although the distance is only 28 miles from Milburn,' under existing conditions lambs and other stock are 26 hours without food before being sold at Burnside next day. The consequence is deterioration, with direct loss to the consignors. Representation# for improved facilities have not met with success, but further representations are to b e made to the district traffic manager by delegates from the Milton branch of tho Farmers’ Utiion. Failing improvement, the consignors are considering the conveyance of their stock by motor lorries, which would only require two hours to plac e the stock in Burnside yards. BOWL TESTING. The Southland Association’s bowl tester will visit South Otago next week to test bowls of players affiliated to the South Otago Association. The testing is to sta»t on Monday on Kaitangata green.
