LLOYD’S ANNUAL SUMMARY. INCREASE IN MOTOR SHIPS. (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright ) LONDON, January 24. Lloyd’s Register, in its annual summary of shipbuilding for 1927, shows that 2.285.000 tons were launched throughout the world, of which 1.225,000 tons were m Great Britain ami Ireland, 289,000 in Germany, 179,000 in the United States, and 119,000 in Holland. The tonnage launched in Great Britain and Ireland increased by 486,000 tons compared with 1926. but the world total decreased by 4,860.000 compared with the record year of 1919. The world total includes 19 vessels ot over 10,000 tons each, and of these nine are over 15,000 tons each; 336,000 will he fitted with steam turbines, md 864.000 with internal combustion engines. The total steam tonnage launched in all parts of the world, namely, 1.375.000, includes 470,000 fitted .o burn oil fuel, so that out of the total of the world tonnage launched in 1927 only 905,000 tons are exclusively depen dent on coal for propulsion. The tonnage under construction throughout the world at the end of the year was 3,119,000, an increase of 1.186.000 compared with the beginning of the year. Of the total, 820,000 are in Great Britain and Ireland. The world tonnage afloat in June, 1927. was 59,688,000, compared with 42.514.000 in June, 1914. It is noteworthy that tankers increased from 1,479,000 to 5.916.000, motor ships from 234,000 to 4,271,000, and steamers fitted for oil fuel from 1,310,000 to 13.500.000. A. and N.Z. Cable.
