A young elephant had two glorious hours of liberty at Titfield. in Northamptonshire. He broke away from his attendants, careered about the countryside, crashed through fences and hedges, and trumpeted his defiance at all and sundry. It was not until sundown that he was caught, and he was conducted back to his stable by torchlight. On the way he persisted frequently in lying down for a rest, and it took much coaxing to gat him on his feet again.
